More of a good thing
by Kevin Fallon

The scenario is familiar. Faced with overwhelming odds, just when things are at their worst, the heroes turn and say with unstoppable conviction, "Don’t worry, everything’s going to be fine!" That’s easy for them to say. They’ve read the script and already know the ending. But that’s not the case for many of us. The constant challenges and continuing stress of daily life can drain the extra energy needed for maintaining a consistently positive attitude.

A positive attitude is one of the most attractive traits people can have. Those who are always upbeat, encouraging and supportive naturally attract others. These positive people know that they can affect the outcome of many of the events in their lives with a belief and determination that things will work out for the best, and that they can create something good out of any situation. By contrast, imagine those who are always negative and complaining. We’ve all worked or lived with them. Our natural reaction is to avoid these people because a negative attitude brings us down and saps our energy.

We learn much of our attitude from parents, teachers, or other influential figures. Like many other personality traits, however, we can cultivate a positive attitude in ourselves. Psychologists, behaviorists, motivational speakers, and countless others have spent lifetimes studying and applying techniques to build a more positive attitude.

In sales and sales management, along with most leadership positions, having a positive attitude

is absolutely essential to success. This is much different than psyching up or false bravado. So how can we develop a positive attitude that lasts?

The process of developing and maintaining a positive attitude can begin with solid moo doe training. Practicing proper moo doe movements releases stress and alleviates other negative factors that steal energy and threaten success. The increased energy that comes from practice combines with knowledge and experience gained in the practice room to build confidence and determination. You can then use these attributes to set realistic, achievable goals knowing that you have what it takes for greater success. Progress towards goals fuels even more determination and perseverance. The combined result is the positive attitude that comes from knowing that once you set your mind, you will ultimately achieve your desired goals, and the increased energy necessary for the maintenance of a higher level of success.
